Inclusive Education Action Group Update – July 2021

The FAN Inclusive Action Group has been working hard to wrap our heads around Bill 64 and the Better Education Starts Today Plans.    We are working with the Public Interest Law Center to develop a plain language version of Bill 64 that is non-partisan.    This will be shared with FAN members as soon as it is ready.   

Survey! FAN has put together a survey for families of students with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities.   We want to be sure we are pushing for the things families want to see in the new education model.   We are committed to advocate for Inclusion to be built into this transformed system from the start, not as an after-thought!

FAN is honoured to be asked to sit on the Minister’s Advisory Council for Inclusive Education and the Parent Engagement Task Force.    Please complete our survey on Education when it comes out and/or send us an email about your thoughts on what would improve the education system to make it inclusive of yourself and your child. 

Also, FAN recently completed an Education Cheatsheet for Students with Special Needs during the Pandemic.    We were thrilled to hear that this helped families to advocate with their schools.   Please let us know what else we can do to help you.
